i am actually certain that something like 99% of buddhists have not said this, ever, even lay buddhists. i know the west has this infatuation of buddhism being only about ~calm~ and ~peaceful~ and ~zen~ but to the best of my culturally absorbed understanding of buddhism, the point (at least in terms of physically practicing buddhism and not on a larger spiritual scale because i’m not as familiar w that) is to divorce yourself from desire and want, which is at the root of mortal suffering. so buddhists, monks especially, are encouraged to divorce themselves from worldly pleasures like wealth and beauty and interpersonal attachments (including their own flesh and blood families, not to speak of romantic attachments). do you think buddhist monks who leave their families take the tonsure and remain celibate for the rest of their lives because they believe that they will meet their soulmates or something? like…seriously.
stop people who romanticize things that they don’t understand 2k14
